As crafters, we know how much joy creating can bring – but it’s also important to consider the environmental impact of the materials we use. This growing list of sustainable craft supplies is a resource for eco-conscious makers looking to reduce waste and make more mindful choices. We’re starting with cross stitch supplies – like more sustainable threads, plastic-free hoops, and environmentally friendly fabric – and will gradually expand to include sustainable options for a variety of crafts. Whether you’re just starting out or a seasoned maker, there’s always a way to craft with care for the planet.
If you know of great eco-friendly craft suppliers – especially from different countries – please share them, so I can add them to this list. Your contributions can help build a global, community-driven resource for sustainable crafting!

The reasons why I have chosen DMC (but if you choose other thread suppliers, there are many thread conversion charts available online):
- DMC aims to have 100% of yarn suppliers covered by both OEKO-TEX and BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) certifications by the end of 2026, extending this to all other suppliers by 2027.
- The company encourages employees, customers, and suppliers to report any suspicion of slavery or human trafficking through a confidential whistleblowing policy, ensuring protection against retaliation.
- DMC has implemented a “Responsible Sourcing Agreement” with suppliers, requiring compliance with local laws, international standards, and the Modern Slavery Act. This agreement includes bans on child labor and ensures fair treatment of employees.

- DMC have developed a product called the Eco Vita Recycled Cotton Yarn which is a tubular yarn and a sustainable choice for eco-conscious crafters, made from 80% recycled cotton and 20% other recycled fibers, offering a soft, durable, and washable material ideal for knitting, crochet, and macramé projects.
